In-Service Training for Tibetan Musical Teachers


TIPA, 20th November 2007:
A total of thirty musical instructors from 21 different Central Schools for Tibetan have gathered here at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts for a ten days In-service theatrical workshop organized by Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration. Almost all of the participants were graduates of this premiere music school and are now serving in various schools as dance and music teacher.

Venerable Yuthok Karma Gelek, Secretary of Department of Education, chaired as chief guest during the inaugural function. In keeping up with the changing times, he expressed in length the need to further raise the standards of performing Arts in our exile community.

Pondering over the reflective features of the performing arts as testimony to the changing time and the society that individual live in, he outlined the difference of musical cultures that has evolved over the time in various countries. As such he identified the need in bringing about variations in Tibetan performing arts and teaching approach on the part of teachers to further generate students interest in learning traditional Tibetan performing arts.

The orientations for this ten days workshop would include, yoga and exercise class, lessons on musical instruments, dance classes, lecture series on chronicle of Tibetan opera, lecture on Tibetan performing arts and introduction to newly drafted Basic Educational policies of the Tibetan Government in exile by distinguished speakers and office bearers from Department of Education.

The workshop will formally conclude on the 29th of November 2007.
