The Arts

Institute closed for Winter Vacation

TIPA, 14th December 2006: The one thing that evokes the musical spirits of the artiste is the sight of the adjacent mountain draped up in nature work of art. Nothing brings more comfort to the weary soul and fatigued body in this small hill station, than the sight of the mountain in its full glorious shade of white.

As the mercury plummets down to freezing point around Northern India, the members witness fresh snowfall on the adjacent Dhauladhar ranges, over looking the beautiful Kangra valley. This change in temperature signals the arrival of winter break, a time for student to head home and meet their parents.

To mark the end of academic year, a special prayer session was organised by the members, at the institute main chapel. After the invocation, all the members congregated at the main ground, where Instructor Samten delivered the customary aria, giving befitting end to the by gone year. The school thus closes for the winter break.
But for many of the artiste, winter break serves as an opportunity to relief their parents from the arduous vocation of sweater selling in the heats and dust of Indian cities. For them it is time to prove their coming of age and taking on the responsibilities of supplementing their meagre household income.
The next academic year will start from 27th of January 2007.
