Yarkyi 2006 Released:
Dharamsala 10th, December 2006: Coinciding with the 17th anniversary of the conferment of Nobel peace prize to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts today released the much awaited 'Yarkyi 2006', a video compilation of Tibetan traditional folk dances and songs.
The one-hour musical video contains traditional Tibetan dances and songs that are wholly researched, composed and arranged by the students. As a part of institution annual founding anniversary, the whole sequence of musical program was premiered before a mammoth crowd, consisting of dignitaries of Central Tibetan Administration, heads of various monasteries, institution, schools and general public.
Each songs and dances expresses various aspects of Tibetan culture and identity. Ngawang Tenzin, one of the main artiste and senior member tells "It would be a delight for those recollecting the fond memories of Tibet, as we have included some popular dances and melodious songs from festivals in their rudimentary form". "For youngster, who like catchy music, we have couple of contemporary Tibetan songs, accompanied by acoustic guitar and synthesizer" adds Tashi Topgyal.
Tenzin, the official sound technician, recorded all the audio for the video at the Institute makeshift recording studio. While, the video was filmed at the school's open stage and later edited at the institute Audio Visual section.
The musical Video Compact Disc is now available in the market at nominal price.
