Melody from Village of Happiness on the Occasion of Democracy Day :
Dharamsala, 2nd Sept 2006 : On this day, way back in 1960's, when the first wave of refugees finally started to settle down, His Holiness the Dalia Lama initiated a historic political reform by introducing Commission of Tibetan People's Deputies. The commissions comprising of 13 members were the first elected legislative members of emerging new society. Since that day, Tibetan people all over the world had been celebrating the day as Democracy day.

Taking part in this celebration, artiste from Tibetan Institute of Performing arts presented two lively dances. One from village of Happiness (Ke-rong) entitled "Mab ja shepa" (In praise of Peacock) and other evoking nostalgic retro of Tibetan communities in late seventies "Choe kyi Lekbham". The lyric of the first song extols the virtues of Peacock, which is traditionally regarded as symbol of beauty and grace. The second songs chronicle the origin of Tibetan civilization and the important events in the annals of Tibetan history.
The morning function at the courtyard of the main temple was presided by Prime Minister Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Chief Justice Commissioner, Justice Comminssioner, Chairman of Assembly and heads of various institutions and schools.
The dance "Mabje Shepa' is taught by Mr.Tsering Tashi and Mrs. Passang Lhamo, both resident of the Kyirong camp, Mcloed Ganj. Instructor Samten Dhondup along with Mrs. Tsultrim Dolma researched the dance from the above mentioned individuals.
