TIPA COMPLETES A SUCCESSFUL TOUR TO DARJEELING AND KALIMPONG
TIPA toured to Darjeeling and Kalimpong from 19th October to 2nd November 2005. TIPA presented Lhamo (Opera) Drowa Sangmo, which was inaugurated by Mr. Ariz Aftab, DM Darjeeling at the Gymkhana resort, Darjeeling. Tibetan self help center and Central School for Tibetans, Darjeeling was closed on that day to attend the Lhamo presentation.
TIPA presented dances from the roof of the world at the capitol hall at 10.00am for Tibetans living outside Darjeeling and guests from different schools, Organizations and Institutes. SP, Darjeeling was chief guest on that day.
Another show was presented at the same hall at 3.00pm for the people living in Darjeeling. His Excellency Mr. Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Governor of West Bengal and Madam Tara Gandhi, Lady Governor were the chief guest on that day. His Excellency and Madam were received with traditional style by two artistes of TIPA and offered scarves by the Director of TIPA and Tibetan Welfare Officer, Darjeeling. Next day was the show for the younger generation Aakama band of TIPA presented variety of songs and audience enjoyed the evening and there were continued requests for the repetition of the songs. Vice Chairman of the Municipal was the chief guest on that day.
The elderly people enjoyed Lhamo presentation and younger ones enjoyed the Aakama band show and every one enjoyed Dances from the roof of the World. Several people came and congratulated the Director of TIPA for the performance. Tibetan Welfare Officer and different Associations, Institutes and NGOs in Darjeeling organized all arrangements of TIPA's visit.
From Darjeeling TIPA moved to Kalimpong and presented a show on the same day. TIPA presented Dances from the roof of the world at the Town Hall. The hall was packed and several people have to leave due to non-availability of seat. Chairman of the Municipal was a chief guest who actually came for few minuets but stayed the whole show for two hours.
Tibetan Welfare Officer and local Tibetan Associations requested for more shows at Kalimpong but due to pre-planned, TIPA could not fulfill their request. TIPA would like to thank TWO of Darjeeling and Kalimpong and Tibetans living in Darjeeling, Distt for their wonderful hospitality, support and cooperation. |
