AaKaMa
In late 80's, a new kind of music was on rise in Tibetan exile community, although in embryonic stage. Tibetan songs accompanied by western musical instruments like guitar, synthesiser and acoustic were slowly making inroads into the fabric of exile music. Slowly people were accepting this contemporary Tibetan music, specially the youngsters and teenagers.
Exploring this emerging medium, TIPA formally launched Aa Ka Ma Band in 1994 that would combine the eastern melodies with western instrument. In the initial stages, there were very few artistes who have knowledge and experience in playing western instruments. Yet despite the problems, members struggled on and were eventually successful.
Their first album "Aa Ka Ma- Modern Tibetan song", released during Kalachakra initiation at Mundgod in 1995 was instant hit among Tibetan. Since than the Band has released 4 more albums, which were all successful. The themes of their songs varies from redemption to love songs, pain of separation of love ones to the freedom that we enjoy in exile. Yet their main emphasis of their music calls for unity and harmony among Tibetan people and in realisation of Tibetan freedom.
