In keeping with TIPA's objective of progress, a Research section was inaugurated here in 1991 in accordance with article 13 of the 8th General Body Meeting. The Research section is delegated with the responsibility of documenting and archiving the Tibetan Opera, alongside adaptations of new Tibetan operas and theater. The section also researches historical plays (themes related to ancient religious kings of Tibet) and Tibetan traditional performing arts.

From time to time, the section undertakes the publication of literature on Tibetan plays, operas, folk songs, folk dances, folk music, ritual dances and ceremonial dances with the main emphasis on the origin, chronicles and lyrics. Furthermore, the section publishes books on different costumes and customs encompassing the three provinces of Tibet.

Under the auspices of the Research section, old masters and expert musicologists are invited to TIPA to share their experiences and expertise with our artistes.
