The Handicrafts department has more than doubled in size over the last few years. The department provides costumes, wigs, hats and shoes for the operas and dances. It also provides flags and awnings for Shoton and other festivals. This department not only provides costumes and other necessities required by the Institute but also meets demands from various schools and dance organisations both within India and abroad. Mr. Chime Dorjee la is the master tailor in charge of this Department.

Carpentry
TIPA has had skilled artisans working in this section for a long time. In addition to providing all TIPA's musical instruments (Dranyen, Piwang and Drums) the carpenters produce thrones, scenery, stage props and various pieces of furniture for TIPA. There is an increasing demand for Dranyen and other instruments which reflects a growing interest in Tibetan performing arts. |
Artist Section
This section prepares Mandala, butter sculptures, thanka painting, modern arts etc for our requirement. This section also undertake stage decoration, costume designs, makeup, cover design for Cds, etc. |
